Blog: Why blue light is harmful to your skin
Is blue light harmful to your skin?
You already know that sunlight can prematurely age your skin. Research has also shown that blue light is also bad for your skin. How does that work exactly? Miranda is happy to explain.
Sunlight consists of UVA, UVB, infrared, and visible light. The difference lies in the wavelengths. If your skin is frequently exposed to these different types of light, you're more likely to develop wrinkles, age spots, and sagging skin. Research has now shown that blue light also contributes to skin aging. Blue light doesn't come from the sun, but from your mobile phone, computer, and tablet. This blue light penetrates your skin more deeply than sunlight and negatively impacts skin cells. DNA, the genetic material in your cell nucleus, can no longer repair itself over time, resulting in skin aging. Do you—like us—spend a significant amount of time each day in front of a screen? Then your skin is taking quite a beating!
What helps to restore your skin?
The best thing, of course, is to expose yourself to less blue light. Less screen time and more real-time exposure is always more pleasant and enjoyable for those around you. It's also smart to use skincare products with a powerful anti-aging formula, such as the Age Defence day and night cream. It contains a cocktail of active ingredients to help your skin recover. The cream works deeper and more intensively on the skin than traditional cosmetics – it can even be called a 'cosmeceutical'. That way, you can worry a little less about checking our Facebook page or Instagram in bed at night.
