How do you prevent makeup from settling into fine lines?

How do you prevent make-up from settling into fine lines?

You probably recognise it: your make-up looks beautiful in the morning, but by midday, your foundation and concealer have settled into your fine lines. This is particularly noticeable with mature or dry skin. The good news? There’s something you can do about it! With the right preparation, techniques, and products, you can prevent make-up from accumulating and over-emphasising your lines and wrinkles.

Why does make-up settle into lines?

Often it's a combination of factors. Skin that is drier or retains less moisture allows make-up to settle into lines more quickly. Heavy or drying products enhance this effect. And if the skin is not properly prepared, for example without gentle cleansing and a hydrating base, your make-up simply has nothing to adhere to.

Proper skin preparation to prevent make-up from settling into lines

Start with well-cared for, hydrated skin. A gentle facial cleanser followed by a fragrance-free, hydrating day cream that absorbs quickly and nourishes, cares for, and softens your skin is the first step. After that, a hypoallergenic primer can work wonders. It evens out the skin's surface, allowing foundation and concealer to adhere better and stay on longer. What will also help: gently exfoliating your skin regularly.

This removes dead skin cells that make the skin rougher, causing make-up to settle into lines more quickly. Do this with a gentle peel like Blèzi Enzymatic Rejuvenating Peeling which is suitable for sensitive skin, so you don't irritate the skin. Also nice: this peel gives your skin a hydration boost.

Smart make-up techniques and textures

Choose a light, liquid foundation that hydrates the skin and, crucially, doesn't dry it out. For this, you need a foundation without harmful, drying ingredients. These can damage your skin barrier and imbalance your skin. Thin layers that you build up stay on better and look more natural. Thick, matte formulas settle into lines more quickly and make the skin appear dry. So it's better to avoid these. Do you like to use concealer? Opt for a creamy, hydrating camouflage cream that blends with your skin without caking. Apply a small amount of product. Less is more! Apply foundation with a foundation brush and gently dab concealer into the skin with a blending brush or your fingertips. Do not rub. Powder can complete your look, but given that it is the make-up product that quickly settles into lines, it is wise to choose the right powder. Go for a hydrating formula and use sparingly to prevent accumulation in lines. Here, many women find the difference between make-up that stays on and make-up that highlights lines.

Natural Perfection - betteraging foundation, does not settle into lines

Recommended Blèzi Products

At Blèzi, we develop products especially suited for mature, sensitive skin. Our Natural Perfection – a foundation and concealer in one – is lightweight, hydrating, and hypoallergenic. It evens out the skin without settling into lines and remains comfortable all day. For natural coverage around the eyes, we have our Ageless Concealer: creamy, hydrating (enriched with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C), and with a finish that beautifully blends with the skin. This keeps your gaze fresh, without the concealer accumulating. Even the face powders we’ve developed are extremely suitable for mature skin, which is exceptional (you can tell: we are very proud of it!).

Silky Powder feels silky soft, like a cream. The powder is super light, hydrates and softens the skin, while fixing your make-up and providing a subtle glow. Thanks to ingredients like snow mushroom, sunflower oil, and grapeseed oil, your skin remains comfortable and hydrated, even when wearing powder. No drying effect, no powdery haze. It simply gives a soft, even finish that optically smooths wrinkles.

Setting Powder is your best friend if you want your make-up to truly stay in place all day. This powder is transparent, does not settle into lines, and makes pores almost invisible. Perfect for setting your foundation and concealer, but also ideal for use on eyelids before eyeshadow. Even a smudging eyeliner stays neatly in place if you fix it with Setting Powder. Both powders are free from fragrance, alcohol, silicones, microplastics, talc, and allergens. They are vegan, hypoallergenic, and have a clean beauty formula, so your skin stays beautiful and healthy.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

To prevent your make-up from settling into lines, avoid applying too much foundation, concealer, or powder at once. Work in thin layers and use powder only where necessary. Always choose make-up products that nourish the skin instead of drying it out, such as Natural Perfection, Ageless Concealer, Silky Powder or Setting Powder. Also, make sure you have the right color and undertone. A concealer that is too light, for example, can draw extra attention to lines. And never skip skincare. Without a good base, even the best make-up will not give a beautiful result.
