Makeup for cancer patients: good for your self-confidence!

Makeup can truly make a world of difference; it boosts self-esteem. Miranda (founder of Blèzi) recently witnessed this when she gave a workshop at the Vicky Brownhuis in 's-Hertogenbosch for women with cancer. When illness changes your appearance, makeup can restore your self-confidence. By the end of the afternoon, these beautiful women were radiant. It was wonderful to see them!

External changes

When you're ill and undergoing treatments, your appearance can change. Your skin loses its freshness or becomes drier and more sensitive. Chemotherapy can make your eyelashes and eyebrows disappear like snow in the sun. Having cancer is already tough enough, and the fact that your appearance changes as a result doesn't do much for your self-image. The right skincare and a little makeup can help you feel beautiful anyway.

Skin care for cancer patients

Radiation and chemotherapy can change your skin. You can feel and see these changes. Your skin becomes drier, swollen, thinner, and even flaky and blotchy. Paying extra attention to your skin with good skincare is essential. Areas treated with radiation, in particular, require extra care. This can be done without too many products or fuss.

Go for a mild cleanser

When cleaning your face, do not use soap or products containing alcohol or chemical foaming agents such as SLS or SLES. Choose a gentle cleansing milk which keeps your skin flora in balance, significantly reducing the risk of infections or irritation.

Choose a cream that restores your skin

Now that your skin is extra sensitive, it is best to choose a day and night cream That protects and repairs your skin. Tubes and airtight packaging are more hygienic and therefore better than creams in a jar. Our creams come in airtight pump bottles.

This prevents oxygen from reaching the skin, ensuring optimal effectiveness down to the last drop. A pump is more hygienic and easy to use. Moreover, our gentle creams contain five powerful peptides, active ingredients that strengthen your skin cells. This is important, because strengthened skin cells are essential for a well-functioning skin barrier.

Skin Care for Cancer

Use a gentle eye cream around your eyes. The skin here is ten times thinner than the rest of your face and extra sensitive. To reduce dehydrated, dry skin and puffiness or dark circles, it's best to choose an eye cream with active ingredients that counteract these. Our eye cream contains eyebright extract and skin-specific peptides that solve these problems.

Makeup for cancer patients: what should you pay attention to?

With just a few makeup products, you can look perfectly groomed—and it feels instantly good. Even if you're not used to wearing makeup, a concealer, blush, and a touch of lipstick are easy to apply. And look: your look is completely refreshed!

Make sure you only use makeup products that are suitable for sensitive skin, unscented, and "clean." This means the formulas don't contain any harmful ingredients. Because your immune system is weakened, your skin reacts more quickly.

Choosing the right foundation

Use a liquid foundation A foundation that's gentle on your skin, free of irritants and harmful chemicals like parabens, phthalates, talc, and fragrance. Ideally, a foundation that hydrates, restores, and nourishes your skin. Choose a shade that matches your skin tone. The best way to determine the right shade is in daylight on your jawline.

Remove stains

You can camouflage dark circles under your eyes, blemishes, skin discolouration and small scars with a Concealer . Avoid sticks, as they'll make your already dry skin look even drier. Choose a hydrating, liquid concealer in a shade closest to your skin tone. Using the concealer under your eyes to cover up discoloration? Then choose a shade lighter than your skin tone. It'll brighten things up considerably.

Fix your base

A translucent powder that sets your foundation and/or concealer, ensuring that your makeup adheres better and lasts longer. Our Setting Powder It also reduces the appearance of pores, fine lines, and imperfections. The natural ingredients in this powder (shea butter, castor oil, carnauba wax, and macadamia oil) purify, hydrate, soothe, restore, and protect your skin. This is a step you definitely don't want to miss.

Drawing eyebrows after chemo

You can fill in your fading eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil. Fill in your eyebrows with small strokes and brush the remaining hairs upwards with a Colored eyebrow gel . This colors and sets the hairs. Our colored eyebrow gel also adds volume thanks to rice bran extract.

If your eyebrows have completely disappeared after chemotherapy, use only the pencil to draw in the hairs. Make sure you have a sharp point for the best result.

Eyelashes after chemo: here's how

Chemotherapy can also cause your eyelashes to fall out. Without eyebrows and eyelashes, your face can lose its expression. That's why many women still like to wear makeup on their eyes. If you don't have eyelashes, waterproof eye pencils and liquid eyeliners The most suitable option. Applying liquid eyeliner to the waterline of your upper eyelid creates the illusion of eyelashes. Applying a colored eyeliner pencil above is both beautiful and easy. This way, you'll make your eyes pop again.

Eye shadow makes your eyes shine

If your skin isn't too sensitive and you'd like to look a little better, use a little eye shadow Choose colors that harmonize beautifully with your own eye color. Avoid colors with a lot of red pigment, such as reddish brown, reddish purple, pink, and orange. These can accentuate tiredness. All cool shades with a blue undertone, such as greens, blues, and grays, give a fresh look.

Once you've applied the eyeliner, apply the eyeshadow over this line and above it. Then blend the eyeshadow towards your eyebrows.

Mascara or not?

Because cancer lowers your immune system, your eyes may be temporarily more sensitive. You're then more likely to experience eye irritation or an infection. Eyelashes may fall out. Therefore, be careful with mascara use or stop using it temporarily. If you do use mascara, clean the brush regularly with soap and water and replace it after a month of use.

Blush instantly gives a healthy color

If your face is puffy or has lost a lot of weight, you can soften this with blush. A wide face will appear narrower if the blush is applied from the cheekbones towards the temples. A narrow face will gain more volume by applying the blush to the apples of the cheeks. blush You can also use it as eyeshadow: just apply a small amount to your eyelids, mobile area, and brow bone. Quick and easy!

Color on your lips

Even if you're not wearing makeup, a touch of lipstick can freshen up your look. Skip the pale and very dark shades and choose a fresh color instead. This could be a soft, natural shade or a bright one. Are your lips very dry? Then choose a nourishing, hydrating color. Our Hybrid Lip Gloss is a multifunctional superhero. It's a lip gloss, color enhancer, and lip conditioner all rolled into one. The gentle formula is made with only ingredients that make your lips happy. It provides nourishment, protection, shine, and a touch of color. Just the right boost you need right now.

No energy for make-up?

There will definitely be days when you'd love to look fresher, but simply don't have the energy to wear a full face of makeup. Stick to your skincare routine then: concealer for blemishes, a touch of blush for an instant healthy glow on your cheeks, and a touch of color on your lips. Even that little bit makes a big difference.
