Apply eye makeup from light to dark, placing the deeper color slightly higher than the crease for mature eyes. Start with a soft base color and gradually build up depth.

Because this is the secret for mature eyes: the eyelid often sags a bit. If you only apply the deeper color in the crease, it disappears as soon as you open your eyes. All that work, and no one sees it. Therefore, place the color slightly higher, towards the brow bone. Choose a matte eyeshadow there, a few shades darker than your skin. Matte gives soft depth, while shimmer would accentuate every wrinkle.

For a beautiful result:

• Apply a light eyeshadow over the mobile eyelid
• Apply a matte color, a few shades darker, in the crease and slightly above it, towards the brow bone
• Keep your eyes open while doing this, so you can immediately see where the color remains visible
• Apply the same deeper color in the outer corner of the eye
• Blend the colors well so you don't see any harsh lines
• Work close to the lash line for more definition

With hooded eyelidseyeshadow should be applied higher than usual, using a matte, deeper colour above the crease towards the brow bone. This way the colour remains visible when your eyes are open and your gaze will appear more spacious.

Hooded eyelids are simply a fact of life at some point. The skin above your eye becomes more supple and sags slightly over your moving eyelid. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does require a different approach. The classic explanation of applying colour to the crease doesn't work here, because it disappears into the fold as soon as you open your eyes.

This is how you do it:

• Work with open eyes and look straight into the mirror, this way you'll see exactly where the colour remains visible
• Apply a light colour, possibly with a metallic sheen, to the moving eyelid
• Apply a matte eyeshadow, a few shades darker than your skin, above the crease towards the brow bone
• Gently blend the colour upwards and outwards
• Apply the same deeper colour to the outer corner of the eye, slightly angled upwards
• Keep the line along the lash line thin, a thick line makes your eyelid appear heavier
• Finish with mascara, which immediately opens up your gaze
